Are you in Reno-Tahoe? Serve on GSMCON2023 Local Host Committee

Aug 30, 2022

Are you in Nevada or in California within 75 miles of Reno? Looking to get involved with your government social media community in a big way? Love the Government Social Media Conference and want to be part of it? We’re searching for you!

You’re invited to apply for the 2023 Government Social Media Conference Local Host Committee where you’ll help get key agencies involved while making the event successful for social media professionals like yourself across the U.S. GSMCON2023, happening May 2-4, 2023, is the largest social media conference for government agencies where we’re looking forward to connecting people who work in government social media both in Reno-Tahoe, Nevada and online for our 8th annual conference.

What does the Local Host Committee do?

Besides have a lot of fun helping to plan special parts of the conference & receive complimentary admission to GSMCON2023? So much more!

The Local Host Committee is an integral part of planning, helping and spreading the word about the event. You’ll be part of a dedicated team that works directly with Team GSM. Typically, Local Host Committee members participate in monthly Zoom planning meetings leading up to the event, and when it comes time for the conference, you’ll participate in various on-site duties, like:

  • Set-up/tear-down
  • Help emcee/introduce speakers
  • Monitor virtual chats in breakout sessions
  • Help plan restaurant romp & other local activities
  • Serve as networking ambassadors

We recognize that some people are most comfortable onstage while others enjoy working behind-the-scenes magic — we’ll work with members to find the best opportunities that work for everyone!

Requirements

Local Host Committee members typically work in the region where GSMCON is being held, and for 2023 that is the Reno-Tahoe, Nevada area. In addition to accepting applications from those who work at an agency within the entire state of Nevada, because of the proximity to the California border, we’re also including those who work nearby in California (within a 75 mile radius from our venue, the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV.)

Other requirements to apply for the Local Host Committee include:

  • You are employed full- or part-time in the public sector.
  • You have an involvement in social media or communications for your agency in some capacity.
  • You want to make a significant impact on the success of the event (and receive complimentary admission to GSMCON2023!)

Previous attendance at GSMCON and event planning experience is very helpful, but not required.

Benefits

All selected members of the Local Host Committee receive complimentary admission to GSMCON2023 in Reno-Tahoe, Nevada! If needed, members also receive up to three nights stay at the Grand Sierra Resort during the event (because some members are local, many also choose to drive to the venue daily).

Local Host Committee members also receive recognition for their participation on the GSMCON2023 website, in the event program and verbal recognition at the event.

But, the biggest benefit is how you’ll impact the success of GSMCON2023! You’ll not only help with planning and important tasks before and during the event, but you’ll also help attendees connect and truly enjoy the area as much as we do.

How to apply

If you checkmarked the requirements above, we encourage you to apply! All you need to do is fill out the Local Host Committee application to include info about you, why you’d like to be on the committee and any additional talents you’d like us to know, and then we’ll let you know if you’ve been selected by the end of September. Applications are due by 5pm PT on Friday, September 16.

We can’t wait to see your application!
